Skin Aging

what is Skin Aging?

Skin aging is a natural process that results in changes to the appearance of the skin.  As we age the outer layer of the skin becomes thinner and there is a loss of fat in the deeper layers of the skin.  There are changes in the connective tissue which reduces the strength and elasticity of the skin. These changes can result in thinning and sagging of the skin as well as wrinkling and discoloration including age spots.

Causes

Skin aging is a natural process that happens to everyone.  There are also environmental and lifestyle factors that can accelerate the aging process.  Skin damage from sun exposure, pollution, smoking and alcohol can accelerate skin aging. Other factors that can result in the appearance of aged or damaged skin include stress, poor nutrition, inadequate sleep and repetitive facial movements. Changes to the appearance of the skin are often the first noticeable signs of aging and can sometimes limit our ability to feel truly confident. Prevention is key, protecting your skin from overexposure to the sun will help maintain a youthful appearance.  Restorative treatments can be utilized to help reverse the appearance of skin aging.
